Dear Diary,
For the last ten years I would say I have struggled with this thing called friendship. I remember the days when my mother use to say " Your only friends are your family". Well let me tell you from experience some family can be just as trifling as strangers on the street so again the question is what is a friend, and do we really need them? Webster defines a friend as one who is attached to another by affection or esteem, an acquaintance, or as simple as someone who is not hostile. Sure wish I had looked this word "Friend" up a long time ago might would have saved myself a lot of heartache because the issue isn't as superficial as the word. We as humans rely on others for almost everything. This includes love, moral support, conversation, sex, dating, advice, validation, self esteem, laughter, and friendship. We need others to make us matter! Its just that simple. If no one knew you exist would you want to be apart of this world? And if you think you can exist in this world alone you are wrong. What Webster didn't define a friend as is someone you can count on to live out every expectation and to always have your best interest at heart. We as a people live in time where the ME, MYSELF, and I complex runs rampant through our communities and its every man for himself. So where does that leave the good hearted? The person who is always trying to be selfless only to attract the selfish. My advice would be to accept people as they are and understand that someone's actions towards you are not always the direct result of you being a bad person. I struggle with this a lot and find myself feeling brokenhearted but I am realizing that without the "Good Hearted" and "Selfless" this world would cease to exist and whenever you stop looking you can truly find a good friend! So I guess the answer is YES we need them because as Marcel Proust stated "Friends are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom!"Good Night Until we meet Again.............
